2024 PSMFM ANNUAL CONVENTION: A Resounding Success

The 27th Philippine Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine (PSMFM) Annual Convention, themed “Best Practices in Maternal Fetal Medicine for the Clinician 2.0,” concluded on November 30, 2024, at Novotel Manila, Araneta City.

The two-day event brought together leading multidisciplinary experts to discuss the latest advancements in maternal-fetal medicine.

With a remarkable attendance of 672 healthcare professionals, the two-day event was a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and fostering a vibrant community of Ob-Gyn clinicians and maternal-fetal medicine experts.

Day 1

  • Defining High-Risk Pregnancy: A comprehensive discussion on the criteria and implications of high-risk pregnancies.
  • Anemia in Pregnancy: Exploring the challenges and management strategies for iron deficiency anemia and thalassemia.
  • Pulmonary Disorders in Pregnancy: Addressing the complexities of asthma and pneumonia during pregnancy.
  • Recurrent Pregnancy Loss and Reproductive Immune Failure: Delving into the underlying causes and innovative treatment approaches.
  • Fetal Growth Restriction: Featuring insights and management strategies from renowned international expert Prof. Eduard Gratacós from Spain.

The first day of the convention concluded with an engaging Carnival-themed Fellowship Night, fostering camaraderie and celebrating the achievements of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine community.

Day 2

  • Patient Safety Concerns in High-Risk Pregnancies: Prioritizing patient safety and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Jaundice in Pregnancy: Understanding the causes, diagnosis, and management of jaundice during pregnancy.
  • Breast Cancer in Pregnancy: Navigating the challenges of diagnosis, treatment, and ethical considerations.
  • Perinatal Mental Health: Addressing the screening challenges and mental health support for pregnant women.
  • The Critically Ill Pregnant Patient: Making rapid and informed decisions in critical care settings.

The second day marked the induction of the 2025 Board of Trustees and twelve new members of the society with a solemn closing ceremony that marked the end of a successful and informative event.

PSMFM 2024 reinforced its commitment to advancing the field of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and improving the outcomes of maternal and fetal health in the Philippines.
