2024 Interesting Case and Research Paper Contest Winners
The PSMFM Committee on Research and Scientific Works is pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 Interesting Case and Research Paper Contest, which was held last October 19, 2024 at the Bayanihan Center, Unilab Complex, Mandaluyong, Metro Manila. In attendance were the Board of Trustees and the Committee on Research and Scientific Works headed by Dr. Jocelyn Cenizal-Bambalan, with Dr. Mary Acda as host. In-person attendance was 70. While, virtual zoom attendance was 27.
Out of the 5 finalists from the 20 submissions for the Interesting Case Paper Contest, Dr. Michelle Ann Vendero from Philippine General Hospital won first place for her paper entitled, “Rescue Splenectomy in Pregnancy for Refractory Thrombocytopenia: A Case Report”. In second place was Dr. Lycelle Belarmino, also from Philippine General Hospital for her paper entitled, “Relapsed Stage IV Classical Hodgkin Lymphoma in Pregnancy: It’s Maternal and Fetal Challenges”. And in third place was Dr. Grace Lynn Estanislao from the Medical City for her paper entitled, “Pregnancy-related Acquired Hemophilia A: A Case Report and Review of Related Literature”. The judges in attendance were Dr. Anthony Marc Ancheta, Dr. Leilani Chavez-Coloma, and Dr. Ma. Corazon De Jesus.
Out of the 5 finalists from the 12 submissions for the Research Paper Contest, Dr. Grace Lyn Estanislao from the Medical City won first place for her paper entitled, “Applied Deep Learning Networks in the Creation of a Risk Assessment Tool to Predict Spontaneous Preterm Birth using Maternal Risk Factors, Cervical Length and Hardness Ratio, and Phosphorylated Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein-1”. In second place was Dr. Sheree Anne Remo-Angeles, from Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital for her paper entitled, “Assessment of the Predictive Value of the Obstetric Conjugate Measured by Two-Dimensional Transabdominal Ultrasound in the Identification of Pelvic Inlet Contraction and the Consequent Dystocia and Abdominal Delivery Among Primigravid Patients: A Prospective Cohort Study”. And in third place was Dr. May Flor Juruena from Philippine Children’s Medical Center for her paper entitled, “Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO4) Regimen for Fetal Neuroprotection in Pregnant Women at Risk of Preterm Birth: A Network Meta-Analysis”. The judges in attendance were Dr. Andrea Santiago, Dr. Mila Ibay, and Dr. Jesus Emmanuel Sevilleja.
The activity proved to be productive and insightful. Hence, the committee encourages all PSMFM members and fellows-in-training to write and publish more scientific works in order to advance the practice of maternal and fetal health, and well-being.
